While a home inspection is often not mandatory in a real estate transaction, it is highly recommended. A home inspection is an objective analysis of the house and it’s major components by a licensed professional. Even new houses have problems that may go unseen by the untrained eye. Older homes sometimes have inspections that are hundreds of pages long and reveal all sorts of previously undiscovered issues.
A good home inspector will be thorough, professional, and objective. The inspectors job is to provide information to the buyer so that he or she can make the best possible decisions throughout the transaction. While a home inspection is not a laundry list of necessary repairs it can be a useful tool for a Realtor and buyer as they decide what repairs, if any, should be requested of the seller.
